Defined Contribution (DC) pension provision is changing as more employees of all ages are in schemes, with longer service and larger pension accounts. Hence, the challenges facing employer sponsors of DC schemes are changing. Historically, communication was focused on joining the scheme, paying contributions and investing – emphasis now needs to be on educating members about their choices as they approach retirement. The Pensions Regulator identifies “poor decisions at retirement” as one of the five main risks to DC members.
