Leadership Corner

Greetings and welcome to the Summer edition of Aon Connect. We have a lot of exciting news to share with you in this issue – from our 2014 Political Risk Map to our Global Service Day.

Aon recently held a global webcast to highlight our accomplishments around “People and Risk” and further challenged our local team to empower results for clients, colleagues and communities. Aon helps communities and lives after major catastrophes. We help deliver healthcare solutions to companies struggling with cost increases and compliance. We help companies operate safely and contain cyber risks and support individuals and their decisions to save for retirement.

Simply stated, our Mission is to “Empower economic and human possibility for clients, colleagues and communities around the world”. We do not take this responsibility lightly. To make this work, we must develop, retain and recruit the very best people in the industry, your Aon Team. That is a major focus for us as we continue to build our teams and create growth and career opportunities.

I am also excited to fully transition to lead the Kansas City office effective July 1, 2014. We have a great team with a rich history in Kansas City.

Best wishes for a great summer and please accept our thanks for your continued support. We are very grateful.

James Arts
Resident Managing Director

ACO Forum – June 25, 2014
Since the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the marketplace has been abuzz about Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and how this model has the potential to change the way employers deliver healthcare. In the recent Aon Benefits and Breakfast event, held on June 25 in Kansas City, MO we provided an assessment of the fast evolving ACO marketplace and key local provider transformations that are currently underway. This event offered an opportunity to learn more about ACOs from a local perspective and helped enhance the strategic programs in addition to helping attendees navigate this new healthcare paradigm.

Five-Year TRIA Extension Proposal
On June 11, the Insurance Subcommittee of the House Financial Services Committee circulated a draft of legislation to reauthorize the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA). The TRIA Reform Act of 2014 would extend the authorization for the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program for five additional years, without making any substantial operational changes for 2015. Additional major elements are as follows:

  • Reauthorize the program for five years
  • Per-event trigger raised to $500 million for non-NCBR events over the last four years of the program
  • Adjust the co-share for non-NCBR events to 80 percent - 20 percent
  • Benchmark recoupment levels to the industry's loss retention level to the sum of its deductibles
  • Increase the assessment rate to compensate taxpayers for the value of their TRIA investments from 133 percent to 150 percent

The Senate Banking Committee has already passed a reauthorization bill which Aon strongly supported, and we expect that bill to be considered and passed by the full Senate before August.

More information about TRIA is posted on Aon's resource site at aon.com/tria

Product Recall and Contamination Risk Management
Product safety and recalls continue to be the focus of regulators and the media as rules mandated under the Food Safety Modernization Act take effect. The number of product recalls in the U.S. and Canada for both food and non-food products grow year over year. In 2013, as a response to several significant recalls, the insurance market capacity contracted.

Our report discusses changes in the regulatory environment relating to product safety and also provides updates on capacity, carriers and new coverage enhancements.
